The Model 951A Automatic Switch Test Station provides switch designers, manufacturers and distributors, as well as OEMs incorporating switches in their products with the most accurate, thorough, and reliable test station ever. Programmable features made the Model 951A equally suited for production, inspection, engineering investigation, and new product development applications. The test station also provides specification verification and trace ability documentation.

The Model 951A simultaneously performs tests for 13 separate switch parameters (electrical resistance and mechanical characteristics) and provides a pass/fail indication. when interfaced with a personal computer, if permits viewing, analysis, and printout of the test results. The Model 951A stores test parameters for up to 16 different switch configurations.

To assure simplicity of operation and efficient, effective, error-free use by anyone, the test station displays operator prompts and provides a minimum of operator controls: a switch configuration selector, a calibration button, and a test button.

Three operating modes are featured: 1) Local - a pass/fail indication is provided; 2) PC - a personal computer interfaces with the test station and is used to configure switch test parameters and view stored test results; and 3) Engineering - test data is logged for every 0.0001 inch of switch button travel and is available for viewing at the PC.

To assure reliable, accurate, and repeatable results, the micro controller-based system features a rigid switch test base which eliminates any possibility of distortion during testing. A precision lead-screw drive mechanism used to trip the switch button also serves to guarantee repeatability of tests.

Switches to be tested are quickly and easily inserted and positioned in a test nest. The nests are designed to provide precise alignment of switches to ensure accurate testing. Nests can be provided by TRICOR or by the user with the aid of TRICORs Nest Development Kit.

The switch test sequence is initiated when the operator presses the test button. During the test sequence, data is logged in the stations memory. Upon completion, the data is analyzed and test results are calculated and compared with the switch test parameters to determine a pass or fail status. The pass or fail indicator then illuminates. Upon completion of the test sequence, the Model 951A is ready to test the next switch.

Switch Parameters Tested

Parameter	Description
Actuation Window(in/out)	The distance from the first switch contact change to the point where all contacts have transferred completely (no more bounce).
Blackout	The dead band that exists during contact set transition (differential measurement).
Contact Resistance(max, min & avg)	The resistance measured from the first contact change plus blackout to the point where bottomout occurs for inward motion, or to the point where button-free position occurs for outward motion.
Free Position	The location of the top of the switch button (actuator) with no force applied against it. The free position is measured with respect to a predetermined reference point.
Movement Differential	The difference in distance between the operating point and the reset point (differential measurement).
Operating Force	The maximum force measured during pretravel.
Operating Point(or position)	The point where all contacts have transferred at least once (ignores bounce). Measured with respect to a predetermined reference point.
Overtravel	The distance from the operating point to the point where bottomout occurs (differential measurement).
Pretravel	The distance measured from the button-free (rest) position to the operating point (differential measurement).
Reset Force	The minimum force measured from bottomout to the reset point.
Reset Point	The point where all contacts have transferred back, at least once, to their original (releasing position) positions (ignores bounce). Measured with respect to a predetermined reference point.
Reset Travel	The distance from the reset point to free position (differential measurement).
Simultaneity>	The distance from a reference contact set or first contact, to the actuation of another contact set. Measured when more than one contact set is being tested.
